Children’s Ministry Team
Team Leader: Kim Vonheeder
The children’s ministry team will provide a safe place for kids to do what they do best - be kids. Staffed with caring, high-quality volunteers, this team will lead children to experience activities they will want to share with their whole family.
Objectives:
- Provide check-in security system
- Design and lead games that involve the children in activity while they wait
- Supervise presentations such as puppets or sketches
- Conduct crafts that teach values to the children in a fun, active environment
Team Leader : Milan Homola
The Leadership Team is a team of faith: refusing to duck responsibility, refusing to take the bow, and committed to serving every volunteer and guest. They bind themselves to work hard, honor Jesus above all things, and live out a life of love for one another. This team is not serving through volunteers; it is Christ living through the leadership. Compassion Rockwood is not their work; prayer and support is their work. Compassion Rockwood is not their desire; Jesus is their desire.
Objectives:
- Lead the overall for the event
- Communicate with churches, agencies and schools
- Recruit team leaders and members
- Support team leaders
- Plan and conduct coordination meetings
- Follow up with teams
- Make final decisions as needed
Team Leader : TBA
Precious to the heart of God is the way His people use money. This team will create a financial force that more than meets the needs.
Objectives:
- Develop and operate an accounting procedure
- Create and manage budget
- Secure insurance policy
- Fundraising
Team Leader : Lane Pelham
The Public Relations team is the voice of Compassion Rockwood. They passionately represent the efforts of hundreds of people. No progress will be made without this team saying it well. In doing so, they also dare to stand next to the throne of God and declare, “You are loved by the King of Kings.”
Objectives:
- Create all media for advertising the event
- Write and distribute press releases
- Organize community notification
- Communicate with local media
- Document the event through pictures, video and writing
Team Leader : Scott Olson
Our guest’s experience will be a flash in the pan if not for the follow up team. This team will recruit, train, and mobilize an army of volunteers whose interest is seeing people get a boost in our community. They will build relationships that will last a life time, or perhaps one without end.
Objectives:
- Develop a program of volunteers that make sure attendees get to their follow up visits
- Develop a program that connects churches, Compassion Connect, and individuals with the people who attend Compassion Rockwood
- Follow up on patients needing on going healthcare
Shuttle Service Team
Team Leader : Lenny Langley
The Shuttle Service team assembles a team of vans and drivers that transport people from the school to various clinics around the area. In doing so, they build relationships that make those who attend Compassion Rockwood feel like they are the most special people on earth—at least for the next few miles. This is one short trip that may be what God uses to tell someone that they are deeply loved.
Objectives:
- Organize vans to pick up attendees from check in and bring to dental offices
- Schedule rotating vehicles that all have friendly drivers
- Coordinate with medical and dental team leaders
Team Leader : Nikki Barone
The Parking and Security Team is the first impressions team of Compassion Rockwood. Their primary goal is to welcome the patient with a friendly greeting and helpful direction. In many ways, this team sets the tone for every other experience the guest will receive.
Objectives:
- Organize volunteers to handle parking and security
- Coordinate with Rockwood Bowl for extra parking space
- Layout parking lot for mobile vans
Team Leader : Shinji Mae
The Equipment Management team is those who bless the people involved in Compassion Rockwood by their service of love and hard work. They model a sacrifice of love for Jesus and people through their cheerful labor setting up rooms with tables and chairs, hauling medical equipment, and keeping the grounds in a manner of cleanliness that honors Christ and blesses Portland Lutheran Schools.
Objectives:
- Communicates with all other coordinators to assess needs
- Gets tables and other equipment rounded up and set up
- Handles set up and tear down organization
- Directs clean up crews
Team Leader : Christopher Furgason
The Social Services Fair team coordinates the booths and presentations at the fair. Their purpose is to make the event as useful and festive as possible. This team turns a waiting room into an enjoyable and educational experience.
Social Services Form
Objectives:
- Recruit agencies to participate
- Communicate with them the schedule and layout of fair
- Develop seminar schedule
Team Leader : Elizabeth Gonzalez
The Interpreters team provides the health care, intake, and social services, with interpreters who show kindness and compassion to those served by Compassion Rockwood. They are a thread between cultures that stitches the community together.
Objectives:
- Recruit and schedule interpreters
- Plan for Spanish and Russian interpreters
Team Leader : Jenn Kirkpatrick
The Hospitality Team provides leadership in coordinating a team of warm, inviting people who demonstrate the love of Jesus through their kindness and their servant hearts. They are the hug of Compassion Rockwood. Their primary job is to make the volunteers and people who attend Compassion Rockwood feel loved and honored. As much as the Lord allows, this team is to build ongoing relationships with patients, so that Compassion Rockwood inspires lives beyond the event.

- Organize general volunteers
- Recruit general volunteers
- Provide food for volunteers the day of the event
Dental Team
Team Leader : Constant Lu
The Dental team provides leadership in pulling together Dentists, Hygienists, Assistants and equipment necessary to meet the patient’s basic dental care needs within the scope of Compassion Rockwood’s ability to be most helpful. More than fixing teeth, this team ministers to the people with the healing power of Jesus Christ.
Dental Volunteer Form
Objectives:
- Recruit dentists and dental offices
- Coordinate NW Medical Teams van and volunteers
- Set up mobile dental units at the clinic
- Establish guidelines for the scope of dental services
- Pre-assign patients for morning appointments
- Screen patients for most effective ministry
Team Leader : Elizabeth Railton
The Medical team provides leadership in pulling together the medical people and equipment necessary to meet the patient’s basic health care needs within the scope of Compassion Rockwood’s ability to be most effective. These people are dedicated to continuing the healing work of Jesus, beyond the body, to the heart, mind, and soul of people precious to God and to us.
Medical Volunteer Form
Objectives:
- Recruit medical volunteers
- Flow of attendees in regard to triage and medical records
- Assemble necessary clinic equipment
- Identify and collect prescription assistance
- Set standards for type of services offered
- Coordinate with referral organizations
- Maintain medical record system
- Coordinate with Good News Clinic and Wallace Medical Concern
Team Leader : Mark Pollock
The Prayer team provides consistent prayer support in order to insure that Compassion Rockwood is a work of the Spirit of God which will bring glory and honor to Jesus Christ and compassion to people. This team will ensure the work is beyond human touch, in fact, supernatural.
Objectives:
- Recruit volunteers to pray
- Solicit prayer requests from teams
- Identify community prayer needs
- Organize and Lead prayer and worship events
- Maintain communication between prayer team network and team leaders
