About

History

In the summer of 2005 a team of volunteers from Clear Creek Community Church traveled to Mexico to provide a medical and dental clinic in local villages. When the group returned to Gresham, OR, a few of the team members asked a question that would challenge the faith of many: “Why can’t we do this in our own neighborhood?”

And the rest is history.

In January 2006, Gary Tribbett and Milan Homola met in a local coffee shop and dreamed big. They wondered if it was possible. Could members of an American community provide free medical and dental care for other members of their own community? After much prayer, they decided to step out in faith and trust that God would take care of the rest. Jorge Osorio was quickly added to the team and he believed that Compassion Rockwood could work.

They had no idea what would happen next.

With only three months of planning, we all saw how big God is and how he blesses those who trust him completely. Compassion Rockwood 2006 took place in April 2006 on the campus of Portland Lutheran School. We saw over 300 people and were able to provide medical, dental and chiropractic care as well as vision screening and a social service fair that included more than 30 agencies.

As 2006 came to a close, the team got back together and sought for the Lord’s leading. The need was still there, and we had a lot of room for improvement. We have been building a team ever since and are excited to see what Compassion Rockwood will look like into the coming years.

Miracles

Compassion Rockwood 2006 saw a number of miracles financially and relationally. We also saw a lasting impact in the community.

Dr. Bob Sayson volunteered at Compassion Rockwood 2006. After volunteering, Dr. Sayson and his wife were challenge by the Lord to step out in faith in a seemingly “insane” way. They decided to retire from their established medical practice and open a year-round non-profit clinic in Rockwood. The Good News Community Health Center will open Spring 2007.

Compassion Connect
